A little over 100 elements make up all matter. Yet when you look around, there are far more than 100 substances with unique properties. How many things that you encounter every day can you identify as being made of a single element? The Statue of Liberty was designed by a French sculptor and was a gift from the people of France to the United States upon the American Declaration of Independence on the 4th of July 1776. It is now located on Liberty Island, in New York City. The skin of the statue was originally made of copper, but after more than a century, the copper skin became corroded due to the salt and water carried by sea winds and rain which gave it the blue-green appearance.
